We are seeking an experienced Estate and Trust Tax Preparer with 3-5 years of relevant experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing fiduciary and estate tax returns, including Forms 1041 and 706, and a solid understanding of estate and trust accounting and administration. You will work closely with clients, attorneys, and internal team members to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant tax filings and to support the firm's estate and trust practice. Key Responsibilities
Prepare federal and state fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041), federal estate tax returns (Form 706), federal and state tax returns (Form 709) as well as related forms and schedules, and Form 5227 for Charitable Remainder and Split Interest Trusts.
Assist with estate and trust administration, including gathering financial data, tracking distributions, and finalizing deceased individuals' tax affairs.
Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide accurate tax planning advice to clients.
Collaborate with attorneys, trustees, executors, and beneficiaries to collect necessary information and resolve outstanding issues.
Maintain accurate records, monitor filing deadlines, and manage workflow to ensure timely completion of all assignments.
Stay current on tax law changes and industry trends through continuing education and professional development.
Communicate effectively with clients regarding documentation needs, filing status, and tax planning opportunities.
Support developing and implementing client-specific tax strategies, including gifting, charitable contributions, and fiduciary distributions.
Ensure all work meets the firm's quality standards and complies with relevant regulations and internal procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
3-5 years of experience in estate and trust tax preparation, including hands-on experience with Forms 1041, 5227, 709, and 706.
Strong knowledge of fiduciary accounting, estate and trust administration, and applicable tax laws.
Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Thomson Reuters, CCH Axcess, or similar platforms is a plus.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective client and team interactions.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
CPA or Enrolled Agent designation preferred but not required.
Spanish speaker is a bonus.
Proactive, client-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current estate and trust taxation knowledge.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve complex tax issues.
