Candidate for this position must be able to operate heavy equipment with complex controls requiring a relatively high degree of skill and manipulative ability. Work of this class is different from that in the class of Automotive Equipment Operator in that the incumbent is expected to operate more complex and specialized equipment and is required to exercise considerably more skill and care in the operation of their equipment to do their assigned tasks. Incumbents are responsible for the routine maintenance of equipment and may be required to perform related manual labor such as shoveling well drilling cuttings and lifting hollow stem augers and Geoprobe rods. Does related work as required. Candidate is required to have and maintain throughout employment in this position a class A or class B commercial driver’s license. The appropriate New York State Driver’s License as determined by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, OSHA, DOT and Suffolk County Civil Service for this position. Either: a) Completion of six (6) school grades, and one (1) year of experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment; or b) One (1) year of experience as an Automotive Equipment Operator.
