We're partnering with a nationally recognized plaintiff-side litigation firm in San Francisco's Jackson Square to identify an experienced Litigation Secretary to support two senior attorneys handling complex maritime and employment matters. This is a contract-to-hire role designed to assess long-term mutual fit, with direct-hire conversion anticipated after six months.The ideal candidate is a seasoned litigation support professional who can perform both traditional legal secretary tasks and more substantive, paralegal-level responsibilities. Key Responsibilities
+ Provide day-to-day litigation support to two busy trial attorneys handling plaintiff-side maritime and employment cases
+ Draft, format, and proofread legal documents including pleadings, motions, TOAs, TOCs, subpoenas, complaints, MSJs, and form interrogatories
+ Handle e-filing in California and federal courts
+ Maintain and update litigation calendars, including court deadlines, using Compulaw or a similar system
+ Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit organization and court coordination
+ Maintain and organize electronic case files in compliance with procedural rules
+ Communicate with court clerks, opposing counsel, and vendors
+ Research and interpret court rules as needed to ensure filings are compliant and timely
Requirements
Qualifications
+ 5+ years of litigation support experience in California and federal courts, including direct attorney support
+ Ability to independently support two very busy attorneys with high caseloads
+ Experience drafting motions, complaints, discovery, legal correspondence, TOAs, TOCs, and trial binders
+ Proficient in e-filing documents in both California and federal courts
+ Familiarity with performing court calendaring using tools like Compulaw
+ Experience subpoenaing records and tracking court rules for filing deadlines
+ Strong writing and proofreading skills with the ability to edit and finalize legal documents
+ Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage shifting deadlines and competing priorities
+ Proficiency in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro; WordPerfect experience is a plus
+ Professional, reliable, and comfortable working in a small, close-knit legal team
