Job Description
The Plant Operator carries out tasks to ensure the efficient operation of all aspects of a natural gas processing plant. This includes overseeing the cryogenic plant, amine treating plant, glycol and mole-sieve dehydration systems, tank farm, utilities, engines/compressors, PD pumps, and centrifugal pumps.
Duties/Responsibilities: - Responsible for ensuring proper flows, temperatures, pressures, and levels.
- Recognizes operating deviations and takes appropriate corrective action.
- Recognizes equipment abnormalities.
- Communicates with maintenance regarding significant repairs.
- Responsible for recording parameter values, completion of operating reports, notification of environmental deviations, and equipment lockout/tag-out for maintenance and repair.
- Complies with PSM regulations.
- Operates plant facilities' various equipment/systems, including but not limited to: Cryogenic plant processing, hydrocarbon fractionation units, process controls and measurement, engines and compressors, pumps, pressure relief system, instrument air system, dehydrators, fuel system, treating, emergency shutdown systems, reciprocating compressors, gas fired heaters, process pumps, amine treating systems, inlet gas receivers and NGL storage and transfer facilities.
- Operates company radio, performs lab tests for quality assurance, diagnoses mechanical problems, makes minor repairs as needed, assists other crafts personnel and other tasks as assigned.
- Seeks to optimize processing though facility and maintains proper product specifications.
- Responds to alarms and problems within the plant and makes the appropriate corrections.
- Performs lockout/tagout procedures.
- Responsibilities also include SPCC reporting, prevention and reporting of any spills and monitoring environmental compliance.
- Maintains and adheres to required company training, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: - Possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must have moderate to advanced computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
- Experience working with pressure vessels and equipment.
- Basic computer skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with a team.
- Ability to perform shift work: routinely work holidays and weekends that occur during the shift.
Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of operating experience in the oil/gas industry
- Experience working in a cryogenics or processing plant
- Experience with operating processes with DCS control, preferably Delta V or Wonderware
- Experience working with pressure vessels and equipment
Certifications: Physical Demands and Hazard for Field Employees: This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
