Job Posting: Sexual Assault Victim Advocate

We are seeking a dedicated advocate to work with survivors of sexual assault, specifically individuals seeking case management and support group services. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing essential support and assistance to survivors throughout their healing journey. This support will primarily involve leading weekly, evidence-based support groups inside various jails and prisons within our service area, along with providing thorough case management to community-based clients. (Applicants must have their own transportation, a valid drivers license, and insurance, as paid travel to these facilities is a key aspect of the role.) Must also be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide crisis counseling to individual survivors.
2. Offer legal advocacy, assist in filing Orders of Protection, and accompany survivors to court appearances as needed.
3. Offer survivors necessary information and referrals to other supportive services.
4. Ensure all interactions with clients adhere to Trauma-Informed Care principles, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
5. Advocate for survivors with the judicial system, state and local agencies, schools, employers, and other relevant institutions.
6. Foster relationships with community collaborators and establish Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs) within the service area.
7. Provide coverage for the office phone and crisis line.

Required Skills:

1. Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and calmly to crisis situations, building rapport with survivors.
2. Proficiency in concise and effective communication to convey needs and information clearly.
3. Show compassion and understanding for individuals facing potentially life-threatening situations and the ability to assess serious issues.
4. Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
5. Strong oral and written communication skills, enabling effective communication with staff and clients, and presenting solutions to problems.
6. Display sound judgment and discretion in decision-making.
7. Computer literacy, including proficiency in using relevant software and systems.
8. Resourceful, creative, and adept at problem-solving.
9. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
