About the Position

Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking a Subrogation Representative for our Glatfelter Claims Management Department. The position will be responsible for:

  • Full handling and control of assigned subrogation claims including propriety of investigation, evaluation, disposition, timeliness and diary maintenance.
  • Customer satisfaction; seeks to provide the best claim service available in the marketplace.
  • Accomplishing claim services and company standards in areas assigned by management.

This position is required to be onsite at our Leader Heights, York PA office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the security and timely processing of subrogation checks received by Glatfelter Claims Management within prescribed practices and procedures.
  • Coordinates and may conduct investigation as needed to properly support successful subrogation recovery against all involved party(s).
  • Reviews and manages outstanding subrogation files as assigned to ensure adequacy of investigation as completed by staff and independent adjusters, timeliness of arbitration filings or placing matters into litigation within appropriate statutes of limitations; maintains proper diary.
  • Assists in the development of resources to most effectively maximize the subrogation opportunities our unique exposures and specialized programs offer. Particular emphasis on recoveries associated with the New York Mutual Aid statute and others as identified.
  • Directs the activity of others in pursuing an investigation to secure all relevant file documentation. May use consultants to assist in determining the cause and origin of losses, to appraise and verify damages, and will consult Subrogation Supervisor on involved liability issues.
  • Brings to attention of Subrogation Supervisor patterns of claims handling deficiencies that impede or retard abilities to recover subrogation interests fully.
  • Negotiates and where reasonable, reaches a compromise consistent with various laws and Glatfelter Claims Management practices and procedures.
  • Quality preparation and timely submission of appropriate cases to various arbitration forums, consistent with Glatfelter Claims Management practices and procedures.
  • Reports on subrogation matters within Glatfelter Claims Management practices and procedures.
  • Represents GIG through continuous countrywide contact with insureds, carriers, agents, claimants, attorneys, and vendors, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned by management.

What We’re Looking For

  • Secondary school education with 2-year handling/adjusting experience in insurance claims or appropriate transferable concurrent experience in a related field.
  • Industry designation is a plus.
  • Appropriate college degree is a plus.
  • Experience in insurance claims or appropriate transferable concurrent experience in a related field.
  • Must have working knowledge of insurance coverage and procedures. Working knowledge of tort and state laws and rules and regulations governing the various arbitration forums.
  • Must have or obtain appropriate adjusting licenses within an aggressive period of time. Effective negotiation skills.
  • Effective verbal and grammatical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize daily tasks, detail oriented. Ability to perform calculations and construct and maintain files.
  • Must have or obtain a working knowledge of a PC and related departmental systems and software in an appropriate period of time.
  • Must have or obtain thorough knowledge of Glatfelter Claims Management and GIG products, services and procedures within an appropriate period of time.
  • Must have successfully completed or complete within one year from hire date AIC 30 – Introduction to Claims, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret insurance policies and make appropriate decisions grounded in those interpretations.
  • Must be imaginative, innovative, self-motivated and able to make sound, rational decisions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems and use analytical ability and independent judgment within guidelines established by management.
  • Ability to organize and manage one’s own time, includes the ability to cope with interruptions while maintaining a high level of composure and concentration.
  • Solid communication skills, includes the ability to compose letters, reports or documents explaining complex issues. Must speak clearly and exhibit ability to reason and impart information to others.
  • Takes the initiative to continue professional development.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and contributes to improvements and the overall success of the assigned team to achieve unit, department and company goals.
