The Department of Management at the Kogod School of Business in American University invites applications for an open-rank, non-tenure track faculty position starting in August 2025. Qualifications include a Ph.D., MBA, JD, or related graduate or terminal degree from a nationally-accredited institution in Business Management or other relevant fields; 3-5 years of leadership roles within the sports industry; familiarity with emerging areas like eSports management, sports analytics, athlete development, or international sports business; strong ties to the sports industry to facilitate internships, guest lectures, and career opportunities for students; ability to develop relationships with professional sports organizations in the region; familiarity with business foundations such as accounting, marketing, finance, and data analytics as they apply to the sports industry; knowledge of current trends like social media marketing in sports, data analytics for performance evaluation, or legal compliance issues in athletics; demonstrated ability to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sports management topics such as sports marketing, sports law, event management, facility operations, and sports finance and versatility in teaching general management courses; strong commitment to high-quality pedagogy; experience designing and teaching online or hybrid courses could be advantageous; demonstrated collegiality and professional background. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and leading a Sports Management program within the Business Entertainment major, participating in department, school, university and professional activities. Initial appointments are typically at the rank of Professorial Lecturer for one year and renewable subject to satisfactory review/performance and budgetary approval. The standard teaching load is six courses per year. The committee will accept applications until the position is filled, with initial interviews conducted over ZOOM on a rolling basis.
