Position Summary:

The American West Heritage Center is a Living History farm in Wellsville, Utah. Its mission is “Create an educational and entertaining environment that inspires our patrons to learn, live and celebrate the American West Heritage by exploring the diverse cultures that shaped Cache Valley and the surrounding region from 1820 to 1920.”

The Farm Manager position directly reports to the Executive Director and oversees all operational activities associated with AWHC site, farm, building maintenance, equipment management, human resource management, and fiscal control management. This position also is the key support for all other departments – Education, Programming, and Administration. The Farm Manager is responsible for the fiscal management financial budgets. 

Responsibilities: Farm Manager

· Directly report to the Executive Director

· Oversee all crop farming, alfalfa, grass hay, corn and wheat. animal operations including:

o Planning and implementation annual crop rotation and planting cycles

o Manage crop-share relationships with crop-share partners

· Oversee all livestock operations and animal husbandry practices including:

o Bison, cattle, draft horses, saddle horses, ponies

o Goats, sheep, pigs

· USDA compliance officer for USDA licensing – animal exhibitor licensing

· Oversee all building structures with associated maintenance, as wells as, site beatification, first impression, and landscape maintenance.

· Oversee all event planning, set ups, and management as support to Programming, Education, and Property Rentals departments

· Oversee all wagon driver (teamster) training and staffing for AWHC

· Manage largest controllable budgets within the AWHC

· Manage multiple groups of staff and volunteers

· After hours Caretaker Duties

· Trek Master over the Handcart Trek program

· Safety Officer

Minimum Qualifications:

· 5-7+ years managerial experience

· 5+ years’ experience in Animal and crop production operation.

· Proficiency in handling animals, draft horses, etc.

· Strong operational knowledge of farm equipment and farm implements

· Must be able to lift 75+ lbs.

· Must be willing to work irregular hours

· Effective communication skills – both written and verbal

· Ability to train, instruct, teach, and mentor

· Perform duties little to no supervision

· Demonstrate ability to manage costs via operations, effective budgeting and cost-control management.

· Create/understand relationships in community.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in business agriculture, agriculture, or animal science

· Experienced in harnessing and driving draft horses
