Who we are
Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions
• Manage all aspect of import process, including but not limited to preparing and submitting material declarations and shipping documents for ocean and air freight, custom clearance and transportation logistics.
• Communicate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure proper ISF filling and efficient transfer of goods through customs and import processes.
• Work closely with brokers, freight forwarders and warehouse to ensure the timely arrival of goods.
Maintain accurate records in the Company AS400/ERP system, including inventory adjustment, price change, and container list.
• Resolve issues related to shipment delays or customs queries by monitoring shipment schedules and shipping documentation; proactively addressing any discrepancies or delays.
• Support documentation and compliance efforts related to FDA, USDA and other regulatory requirements for imported products.
• Prepare and review cost calculations for ocean and air shipments from foreign countries.
• Process shipment receipts and vendor invoices, and issue compensation charges to vendors.
• Prepare weekly sales meeting, update reports to inform salesperson about new products, changes to existing products, and promotions.
• Assist in planning and executing logistics for the company’s annual Food Expo, including coordination with suppliers and vendors.
• Attend company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Obligation to answer to all management as requested.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit and work in an office setting for extended period of time.
• Ability to type and use computer for extended periods.
• Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds occasionally.
• Working Conditions:
o Noise Level: Normal to loud while in the office
Other Requirements
• Business level English Required – Read/write/speak/listen.
• Business level Japanese preferred- Read/write/speak/listen.
• Maintain a positive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently as a team.
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload.
• High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of relevant logistics experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
• Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional organization and time management skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of AS400 or other ERP systems preferred.
• Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes preferred.
