Job Description

Overview Structural Steel Detailer at Vulcan Materials Company. Vulcan Materials is a leading producer of construction aggregates and related materials. This role involves designing detailed drawings and ensuring safety and compliance in the design process. What You’ll Do Champion Safety. Ensure designs meet applicable safety codes and best practices. Develop final designs to make construction and operation of components a safe activity. Work with project, area, or design engineers to ensure compliance with design and local codes. Document Standards. Document department standards and best practices for utilization across the division or company. Maintain the department’s electronic drawing files. Design and Develop. Work independently to design and develop detailed drawings. Support Design Engineers. Provide cost‑effective designs to meet project needs. Develop and incorporate design concepts and best practices into your designs. Collaborate. Work with project, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineers to coordinate disciplines. Work with project and construction personnel to ensure that construction methods are understood and projects are completed in a cost‑effective and timely manner. Review. Review work completed by others and review shop drawings as required for outside fabrication. Maintain Schedules. Assist in maintaining construction and modification schedules to ensure timely completion of drawings. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. What You’ll Need Education. Technical school training in CAD (Computer Aided Design) is preferred. Experience. Thorough working knowledge of 3D AutoCAD or Advanced Steel in a Structural Steel environment. Experience with Vulcan and/or the aggregate industry in a field or design position is preferred. Technology Skills. CAD skills sufficient to produce 3D designs. Ability to operate large‑format plotters and scanners or willingness to learn with minimal training. Design Skills. Knowledge of design specifications and practices, building codes, and equipment used in the company’s plants is preferred. Communication Skills.
